Qualification for Registration
General Registration - Apply according to each age group.
Special Registration - For elementary, middle, and high school students, a student with the highest rank (1st grade) in each section is granted a qualification to apply upper section. In this case, private certification is authorized but is excluded from the award lis

Standard Grade English Proficiency Level Writing Level Sample
1st Grade Able to communicate effectively and logically in any situation by using simple and complex sentence. Evaluates how the candidate expresses his/her opinion in a unique and logical way by considering the relations between academic and sophisticated passages.

Level of a college student in an English-speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 33,000 words
2nd Grade Able to communicate without trouble by using simple and complex sentence. In need of logical development. Evaluates how the candidate expresses his/her opinion by considering the logical relations between passages with practical themes.

Level of one with higher education background
Vocabulary level: about 22,000 words
3rd Grade Able to communicate by using simple and complex sentences but cannot fully express in depth. Some grammatical errors and wrong usages. Low logical development. Evaluates English writing skills and logic through how the candidate recognizes the problems in the given passages.

Level of a high school student in an English speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 11,000 words
4th Grade Not able to express in depth but able to understand basic expressions. Able to communicate by low-level simple and complex sentences. Frequent grammatical errors and limited vocabulary. Evaluates the paragraph construction, the ability to summarize, compare, analyze, integrate, and subdivide at the same time

Level of an upper grade of middle school student in an English speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 8,000 words
5th Grade Limited vocabulary and expression skills with low logic. Able to use basic vocabulary and communicate and express oneself by using low-level simple and complex sentences. Unnatural expressions and frequent grammatical errors. Evaluates the paragraph composition and the ability to summarize, compare, analyze, etc.

Level of an lower grade of middle school student in an English speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 5,000 words
6th Grade The candidate use basic vocabulary. However, the vocabulary level is so low that smooth communication is impossible. Only able to communicate in a fragmentary situation. Frequent grammatical errors and unnatural expressions. Evaluates the candidate’s explanation skills (how to utilize examples, to describe, to use complex structures) including inference ability

Level of an upper grade of elementary school student in an English speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 3,000 words
7th Grade Able for basic communication with limited vocabulary but still has problems in making sentence. Frequent grammar errors and unnatural expressions.

Level of a lower grade of elementary school student in an English speaking country
Vocabulary level: about 1,500 words
8th Grade Not able to communicate due to word by word expression with difficulty in establishing sentences. Many grammatical errors and unnatural expressions. Evaluates basic sentence structure with the candidate’s structure composition and description ability
